Do you know about the Christmas Book Flood that happens on Christmas Eve every year in Iceland? During World War II, gifts were scarce in Iceland. But books were still available. So on Christmas Eve every year since Icelanders have exchanged books and read (often by firelight, at least in imagination). I think it’s a lovely idea.
